4 x 3 is a free word puzzle where four categories of three words each share one hidden word in common — the keystone. Inspired by Hank Green's 4×3 and the deduction style of NYT Connections, every puzzle in this pack is original. Solve the Daily for a fresh challenge every day, or dive into Play Unlimited to work through the whole pack at your own pace.

How to Play

  1. The board has 9 words, but they're not 9 unrelated words — four categories of three words each, and one of those words (the keystone) belongs to all four categories.
  2. Tap three tiles you think form a category and hit Submit. Every correct guess after your first must reuse the one word you've already solved.
  3. A correct guess locks in that category and reveals its name. A wrong guess costs one of your three mistakes.
  4. The keystone stays hidden until two categories are solved — then it's revealed and glides to the center of the board.
  5. Solve all four categories before you run out of mistakes to win.

Stuck? Hint reveals one category name for a small score penalty. Shuffle rearranges the board without changing your progress. Solve fast and mistake-free for a higher score.
